Parent Education Programs:
Being a parent has never been easy, but the challenges seem exponentially greater today. Many young mothers have had inadequate parenting themselves. They simply don’t know the skills involved in being a good parent. CCES’s group parenting programs cover such key information as child development and age-appropriate behavior; communicating with your child; disciplining your child and understanding the difference between discipline and punishment; cultural issues; and how to manage specific problems and develop guided goals for parenting.
Adoption Information:
This program helps parents sort through the available adoption options. Is domestic or international the best choice? How much will adoption cost? Is private adoption—through advertising in newspapers or working with an adoption attorney—viable? What about single parent adoption? Prospective parents will get a perspective on all of the available possibilities, so that they can forward toward their goal of becoming parents.
Group for Teens:
A new rap group in Queens strives to help teens deal with peer pressure issues through sharing with one another. Groups leaders also strive to use the group as a vehicle to help prevent teen pregnancy, to keep teens in school, and to help kids discern which music has a negative—and which has a positive—impact on their lives.
